Search Engine Optimization, abbreviated as SEO, is a technical method employed by websites and blogs to place hierarchy on content being shared by them on the internet. Bloggers and website owners who share resources through their sites or use them as a medium to sell their products utilize search engine tools made available on Google to enhance their online presence.
Google categorized these tools based on the nature of search entered by people, which led to SEO and SEO Marketing. Both tools are used to increase the presence of any website when certain keywords relating to its content are being searched. SEO was first developed by Google before SEO Marketing came into play. After digital marketing started advancing, the need to develop an alternative system to cater for its fast growth brought about SEO Marketing. SEO Marketing can be substituted with SEM, a short form of Search Engine Marketing.
SEM and SEO may tend to appear similar since they are both optimization tools. However, their differences seem to outweigh their similarities, on the subject of application. SEO is used primarily on websites that are not created for money-making. Their goals are not based around money as most of their materials are freely shared among members including visitors. SEO used on these sites greatly improves their visibility ensuring that people find content easily when surfing the internet.
Unlike SEO, SEM is mainly used for marketing purposes. The websites are integrated into those that offer services and products to the public. SEO Marketing ensures that products advertised on most channels get to the notice of people. The technology behind SEM is to build-up high traffic on various platforms where marketing links are posted. Online merchants are the sole users of SEM. SEO users are just website owners who want their content to rank top on Google.
